The second jewel of the Triple Crown is a week away. With Chasing Freedom as a possible starter, we might have as many as 10 horses in Preakness 2024. So let's take a look at an early projection of the morning line.

Ed DeRosa already covered some betting opportunities with his Preakness fair odds, but with our early morning line, let's look at how the odds might end up on race day.

Muth and Mystik Dan

The big question for Preakness odds is who will be favored? Normally it is the Kentucky Derby winner, but in this case Muth just beat Mystik Dan by 6 1/4 lengths in the Grade 1 Arkansas Derby, so it seems fairly clear the Bob Baffert trainee will be the public choice here. While Muth can certainly go shorter than the 9-5 listed here, with the presence of the Derby winner and several other contenders including Catching Freedom, we did not want to go lower at this time.

Several contenders in play

Understanding this may be Muth's race to lose, in addition to Mystik Dan, there are still as many as four other contenders who are fairly close on speed figures. With that in mind we have set Catching Freedom and Tuscan Gold at 6-1, Imagination at 8-1 and Copper Tax at 12-1.

Note that as of this time, Mystik Dan and Catching Freedom are listed as possibles, the other seven horses are probable.
