Prairie Meadows reschedules to accommodate quarter horses

To make room for added quarter-horse races in the next eight days, Prairie Downs has moved up the start times for cards Saturday, next Sunday and next Monday.

“Prairie Meadows ... in collaboration with Iowa Horsemen’s Benevolent and Protective Association, Iowa Thoroughbred Breeders and Owners Association, Iowa Quarter Horse Racing Association and Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission have agreed to move the start times on three days next weekend due to anticipated number of quarter-horse trials to be held all three days,” track management said in a news release Saturday night.

Saturday’s card with three quarter-horse and seven Thoroughbred races was moved up from 7 p.m. EDT to 5:30 p.m. Next Sunday’s program with five quarter-horse and seven Thoroughbred contests was rescheduled from 5:30 p.m. EDT to 3:30 p.m. Entries will be taken Monday for the card that was moved from 5 p.m. EDT to 3:30 p.m. next Monday.

The Prairie Meadows racing season ends Sept. 27 with Iowa Classic day.
