Positive Response Romps in Battaglia

Positive Response might have thrust himself back into the Kentucky Derby picture when he pulled away in the stretch to win the $100,000 John Battaglia Memorial Stakes by 7 lengths Saturday night at Turfway Park.

The Golden Gate Fields-based 3-year-old gelding won the Gold Rush Stakes and California Derby but finished third in the Grade 3 El Camino Real Derby. Trainer and co-owner William E. Morey took him to Florence, Ky., for Saturday night's race plus either the Grade 3, $500,000 Spiral Stakes or the $100,000 Rushaway Stakes on March 26.
