Position May Be Make-or-Break in Speed-Filled SA Juvenile
Story to Tell has had only one race, winning by a length and a quarter at 4 ½ furlongs on May 23, but the 2-year-old son of Bluegrass Cat is cool beyond his years.
“He’s been very mature since the day we got him out of the (Barretts) sale,” trainer Dan Hendricks said. “He’s gone straight forward, never been a problem.”
As for strategy in Sunday’s $125,000 Santa Anita Juvenile at 5 ½ furlongs, Hendricks said, “All the horses in there broke their maidens with speed, so it’s going to be a matter of the break, the first sixteenth of a mile, getting a position.
“There’s speed inside and outside of me, so if he breaks on top, fine; if not he can sit right behind them and hopefully pounce and make one move.”
The field for the Santa Anita Juvenile: Global Magician, Elvis Trujillo, 8-1; Kristi’s Copilot, Aaron Gryder, 4-1; Story to Tell, Joe Talamo, 3-1; Holiday Camp, Martin Garcia, 2-1; Wake Up Nick, Mario Gutierrez, 4-1; Homer Matt, Edwin Maldonado, 8-1; and Henry’s Holiday, Tyler Baze, 8-1.
