The third installment of the National Racing Club 6 Sweepstakes and the 48th running of the Portland Mile will highlight the upcoming week of racing at Portland Meadows.
Monday's 15-race program will feature the National Racing Club 6 Sweepstakes, a unique wager with a $100,000 guaranteed pool. The 20-cent wager will kick off with the 10th race on the 15-race program. Races will once again be run as Auction Stakes, where the winner will be auctioned immediately after each race. The fillies and mares are offered with a complimentary season to 2005 Kentucky Derby-winning sire Giacomo.
The National Racing Club 6 Sweepstakes will be paid out when there is a single unique ticket sold with all six winners. On days when there is no unique ticket, 60 percent of the day's pool goes back to those bettors holding tickets with the most winners while 40 percent is carried over to the jackpot pool.
Tuesday's program will feature the $25,000 Portland Mile and $15,000 Portland Distaff.
The Mile drew a field of 10 including Alpha Bettor, the 2-1 morning-line favorite. Trained by Jose Corrales, Alpha Bettor ships in from Woodbine where he won the 2013 Autumn Stakes (G2) and placed third in the 2014 Eclipse Stakes (G2). The son of Alphabet Soup has earned more than $800,000. Lord Rosberg, a winner of two of three starts at Portland Meadows, won the Crater Lake Handicap last time out by 6 1/2 lengths.
The Distaff, also at a mile, drew a field of seven including Wise, a 4-year-old filly who broke her maiden in December in the Oregon Hers Stakes for Oregon breds.
Both racing programs Monday and Tuesday will be called by guest track announcer Vic Stauffer, formerly the track announcer at Hollywood Park.
