Portland Meadows will introduce a unique new wager Monday, Jan. 4 in the National Racing Club 6 Sweepstakes - a 10-cent Pick 6 with a $100,000 guaranteed pool featuring six, two-furlong races.

The National Racing Club 6 Sweepstakes will be paid out when there is a single unique ticket sold with all six winners. On days when there is no unique ticket, 60 percent of the day's pool goes back to those bettors holding tickets with the most winners while 40 percent is carried over to the jackpot pool.

The National Racing Club 6 Sweepstakes will run once a week for up to six weeks.

The horses in the National Racing Club 6 Sweepstakes will run under team names from around the country.

"We're trying an experiment," said Karsten Hennze, Vice President of Corporate Operations for The Stronach Group. "There's not much simulcast product out there on a Monday, so we're hoping this wager brings attention to our product. We're also hoping it draws attention to the first eight races on Monday and our horsemen in those races.

"The races have been constructed to make them as competitive as possible and the jockeys have been assigned mounts randomly.”

"We know it's a lottery-type wager, but we think this is an opportunity to try new things. We don't want to stay stagnant in an industry that needs to continue evolving."
