Point of Honor gets another Grade 1 shot in Belmont's Ogden Phipps
Point of Honor, who has been in the money in five straight starts but hasn't won since last May's Black Eyed Susan (G2), is expected to make her next start in the Grade 1, $300,000 Ogden Phipps on June 13 at Belmont Park.
The 4-year-old daughter of Curlin has been "doing very well," said Aron Wellman, a partner in Eclipse Thoroughbred Stables, which owns Point of Honor with Stetson Racing LLC.
The Ogden Phipps is a 1 1/16-mile trip for fillies and mares 4 years old and up.
Trained by George Weaver, Point of Honor finished third in her last start, the Apple Blossom Handicap (G1), on April 18 at Oaklawn Park despite a slow start that left her lengths behind some of the top fillies and mares in the country.
Wellman also provided an update on stakes plans for these other Eclipse horses:
• Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf winner Sharing, trained by Graham Motion, is set to make her 3-year-old debut on Saturday in the $100,000 Tepin at Churchill Downs.
• Farmington Road, trained by Todd Pletcher and in fourth place in the Arkansas Derby on May 2, will run in the June 20 Belmont Stakes -- "hopefully," Wellman said.
• Moretti, also trained by Pletcher, is aimed at Belmont's $80,000 Flat Out stakes on June 11. His May 2 win in an allowance race at Oaklawn was his first score since December 2018.
• Current, another Pletcher trainee, will run in the $100,000 Louisville (G3) at Churchill Downs on June 13. The 4-year-old came in third in the Pan American Stakes (G2) at Gulfstream last out and hasn't had a victory since the Bourbon Stakes at Keeneland in October 2018.
• Speech, trained by Michael McCarthy, is slated to run in the $200,000 Santa Anita Oaks (G2) on June 6. The 3-year-old filly broke her maiden in December and his finished second in three tries since then, including a March 8 effort in the Santa Ysabel (G3) at Santa Anita.
• And Red Lark, a 3-year-old filly trained by Patrick Gallagher, will look to improve in the $100,000 Honeymoon Stakes (G3) at Santa Anita on May 30. She broke her maiden on her seventh try in February at the same track, then came in fifth in her only race since, the March 7 China Doll Stakes.
