Plum Pretty Sharp in Kentucky Oaks

Plum Pretty sat a comfortable stalking trip en route to a good looking score in Friday's Kentucky Oaks (G1) at Churchill Downs.

Summer Soiree took the early initiative under Gabriel Saez but Martin Garcia aboard Plum Pretty never let her out of his sights.

Plum Pretty seized command turning for home and had enough left in the tank to hold off St. John's River. The Bob Baffert trainee completed her nine furlong journey in 1:49.50 and paid $14.60.

The battle for show honors was close with Zazu rallying on the outside to edge Joyful Victory and Bouquet Booth.

Plum Pretty, a 3-year-old daughter of Medaglia D'oro, flashed promise in a pair of sprints to kick off her career but based on her strong route pedigree her connections probably could not wait to stretch her out. She landed the show behind more seasoned rivals Zazu and Turbulent Descent in her first route try before blitzing her rivals in the Sunland Oaks. Saturday's win was her third in five lifetime starts.
