Ed Peters has 2 spots for the NHC in Las Vegas next January, and he won them both by playing DerbyWars!
Peters, who goes by fantini33 on the site, had an incredible weekend, finishing in the top 2 of the NHC Game, securing a second NHC berth, and finishing second in the $20,000 game on Saturday to qualify for the $100K game.
"Having to win your way in by being 1st of 24 in qualifiers is difficult enough, let alone having the good fortune to be correct a few times on qualifying day. The people that are able to qualify during the weeks leading up are all obviously great handicappers which means you have a solid field trying to get the NHC spots. No "one shot wonders" who plunk down their money and have 1 lucky day. This seems like a legit achievement and I hope to represent DerbyWars well in Las Vegas."
Peters played well Saturday, with his key pick coming in Del Mar's third race. "I used a lot of similar horses in yesterdays games but the one that was a true separator was Heyyoucan," he said. "That winner enabled me to not have to chase the rest of the way in either game and I was able to use more obvious type horses to maintain my positioning."
Peters scored $104.80 in the $20K game and $81.70 in the NHC Game to take home $3,625 in cash, plus a spot in the $100K game. Peters has thrived on the contest scene after only joining the fun about a year ago.
"This is my first year trying to qualify for the NHC and have only tried through DerbyWars, although I know there are many ways to gain access to an NHC spot. Having only played tournaments through DerbyWars I feel very comfortable with the formats and website."
Peters has some experience with the High Stakes on-track play - he won the Xpressbet $50,000 Preakness Big Bet sweepstakes in 2013. "I don't always bet $50,000 on the Preakness, but when I do, I prefer to use Xpressbet's money. Stay thirsty my friend," he joked. "After much deliberation I took the $50k free roll on Orb, but it was a last second decision between him and Itsmyluckyday."
Peters will have an entry in the $100,000 Game on Labor Day weekend, and he's excited about the challenge. "I love the 2 day format of the $100,000 game! It will be a test of patience with so many races and it will be interesting to try and come up with a solid strategy for that type of game. Should be a great trial run for Vegas!"
