Phoenix Stakes a Likely Target for Runhappy

One day removed from earning her first graded stakes victory with her first start at Saratoga in the Grade 1 NYRA.com King's Bishop, trainer Maria Borell was still elated with the performance of 11-1 longshot Runhappy, who set a stakes record, completing the seven furlongs in 1:20.54, just .14 seconds shy of the track record for the distance.

"It's all still very unreal to me," said Borrell. "We were very confident coming into the race, he had been training so well. Edgar [Prado] who I've been friends with for a long time came down to work him at Keeneland and he said he felt great. We're all glad everything worked out."

Coming out of the race in good order, Runhappy will be pointed to the Grade 3 Phoenix Stakes at Keeneland on October 2 going six furlongs in preparation for the Breeders' Cup Sprint on October 31.

"He came out excellent this morning," Borell said. "He ate all his feed, and looked great. We'll point to the Phoenix Stakes next and then hopefully the Breeders' Cup at Keeneland."
