Peter Pan fair odds: No fad bets on Trendsetter
Two horses who lost to Trendsetter last out are pointed to the Preakness Stakes, but trainer Ben Colebrook is sending his Grade 3 Lexington Stakes winner to the Peter Pan Stakes (G3) on Saturday at Aqueduct.
Trendsetter defeated The Hell We Did and Corona de Oro on April 11 at Keeneland, earning a lifetime-best Ragozin figure in his first two-turn dirt race. Now the son of Modernist stretches out to 1 1/8 miles and figures to get a similar setup as his Lexington win.
Trendsetter is about as likely as either Talk to Me Jimmy or Growth Equity and will be twice the price of both, based on Horse Racing Nation's projected odds. Talk to Me Jimmy is getting class relief here, not having to go against the likes of Napoleon Solo or Iron Honor on the front as they're also Preakness bound. Growth Equity is stepping up in class off a maiden win in his third career start.
All of the others would need to run career bests by a lot while all three top contenders falter, which is an unlikely scenario. Gulfy is a little interesting going up in class second off the claim and a win, but his style is adversarial here rather than a complementing feature. Still, if looking to beat one of the top three out of the tri, Gulfy can hang around for a piece.
