Pennine Ridge fair odds: Known form meets future star
In a fair odds first, I rate Legend of Time and Risk Tolerance as equally likely to win the Grade 2 Pennine Ridge on Saturday at Aqueduct.
I typically like to express some opinion on most likely winner by assigning different fair odds, but I could not separate these two. The great thing about fair odds, though, is that the final odds determine how to use this opinion. In the case of liking a pair of horses the same, just bet the longer price.
David Aragona is the best morning line maker in the business, so assuming his 2-1 line on Legend of Time and 3-1 line on Risk Tolerance is correct, then Risk Tolerance is the play here at fair odds of 5-2, and I am not mad about it.
Risk Tolerance pretty much won as he pleased on debut, tracking an honest pace before rallying in the stretch in a sub 29-second final fraction to get up by three-quarters of a length. He's giving away plenty of seasoning to Legend of Time, but my thought there is we know who Legend of Time is whereas Risk Tolerance can be any kind, to use the racetrack cliche.
White Palomino and Triple Espresso are by no means impossible, but the former has the look of a colt who might want longer while the latter may have too much to do if Risk Tolerance runs back to his debut. I will peak at exacta probables and see if it is worth trying to beat one of the favorites out of that number with White Palomino or Triple Espresso in the mix.
I expect Risk Tolerance to be the play come post time, though, and a likely single for me in the multi-race wagers.
