Penn Mile postponed 1 week because of weather
The Grade 3 Penn Mile scheduled for Friday at Penn National has once again been postponed. This time for one week because of continued rainfall.
An X post by the Pennsylvania Horse Racing Association said the stakes races scheduled for Friday at the track near Harrisburg, Pa., will be held June 27 instead, with a first post of 5 p.m. EDT.
Penn National will proceed with the seven non-stakes races that were scheduled for Friday.
The other stakes on the Penn Mile card are the Penn Oaks, the Alphabet Soup Handicap and the Lyphard Stakes. The four turf stakes will be run as drawn.
The National Weather Service forecast for Grantville, Pa., called for possible severe thunderstorms and a 60% chance of rain Thursday night.
Zulu Kingdom, trained by Chad Brown, was the morning-line favorite for the Penn Mile at 7-5. The 3-year-old colt won his most recent start in the American Turf (G1) on the Kentucky Derby undercard at Churchill Downs.
