Parx cancels Tuesday races after jockeys' hot box breaks
Already a quiet Tuesday in the Thoroughbred racing world, Oct. 16 will have even
less action with Parx Racing cancelling their nine-race card as not enough
jockeys were available to ride.
The hot box in the jockeys’ room broke and there weren’t enough jockeys under the weight limit to keep the races going for the day. Without the hot box, a steam room, jockeys weren’t able to sweat off the extra weight in time for the races.
The Parx Racing Office confirmed the reason of cancellation and said the jockeys voted not to ride Tuesday. Eight of the nine races were claiming with a featured allowance for Pennsylvania-breds sprinting 5 ½ furlongs.
Live racing is scheduled to resume at the Bensalem, Pa., track on Saturday, Oct. 20. Saturday’s feature will be an allowance for 2-year-olds going seven furlongs over the main track.
