Turfway joins Parx in canceling racing because of wintry weather
Turfway Park canceled its Thursday race card beause of lingering effects of Sunday’s winter storm and forecasted single-digit wind chills.
The $180,036 late Pick 5 carryover will now shift to Friday’s card, which has a scheduled first post of 5:55 p.m. EST.
Officials with the Northern Kentucky track will continue to monitor the weather forecast throughout the week and provide updates if necessary for any changes regarding Friday through Sunday’s cards.
Over the weekend, Turfway moved its Wednesday card to this coming Sunday. That move was taken ahead of a snowstorm that began on Sunday. As of 6:45 a.m. Monday morning, Florence, Ky., had received 6.5 inches of snow, according to a Cincinnati Enquirer report.
The snow was expected to end Monday, according to the National Weather Service, and no precipitation was expected until Friday, when there is a 50% chance of snow. The National Weather Service predicted highs below freezing though Saturday, with highs around 32 expected Sunday and next Monday.

The National Weather Service predicted a high of 31 degrees and one to three inches of snow Monday, with a 100% chance of precipitation. Tuesday's forecast called for a sunny day with a high of about 31 degrees. The rest of the week is expected to be clear as well.
