Saturday's $175,000 Long Branch Stakes at Monmouth Park has attracted a field of eight three-year-olds for the final prep race before next month's $1 million Haskell Invitational.
Topping the field in the 1 1/16 mile race is Arkansas Derby winner Papa Clem with jockey Elvis Trujillo. Trained by Gary Stute for Bo Hirsch, the colt will start from post five and is the expected favorite when the gates opens.
Papa Clem will make his first start in Saturday's Long Branch since a sixth place finish in the Preakness Stakes. He was fourth in the Kentucky Derby following the Arkansas Derby. Papa Clem began the year with two runners-up results, in the Robert B, Lewis Stakes at Santa Anita and the Louisiana Derby at the Fair Grounds.
