Klaravich Stables and William Lawrence's Paid Up Subscriber, a determined allowance winner at Saratoga July 25, worked four furlongs over the main track Sunday morning for trainer Al Stall, Jr.

The 3-year-old daughter of Candy Ride was clocked in 49.04 seconds. It was the second work back since rallying for a nose victory going six furlongs after looking hopelessly blocked at the head of the stretch.

"She's done that three times," Stall said. "She's been trapped behind horses literally in all her races. She hasn't had a chance to spurt but a couple hundred yards in each race. I'm kind of anxious to see what she'd be like with a clear trip all the way around there."

Unraced at 2, Paid Up Subscriber debuted April 4 at Keeneland, nearly losing rider Francisco Torres after a bumping incident at the three-sixteenths pole that saw her disqualified from third to fifth. She returned May 1 at Churchill Downs, slipping through a narrow opening late to break her maiden by two lengths.

"She's certainly got four, five, six races' worth of experience in three races," Stall said. "She's been inside, trapped, gotten dirt, had tiny little holes to run through and almost had the jock fall off. She's had all kinds of adversity and come through it."

Both of Paid Up Subscriber's wins have come against older horses. Stall is uncertain where the next spot will be, but is considering the Grade 2, $300,000 Prioress for 3-year-old fillies going six furlongs September 5.

"She worked this morning and she seems OK. We're trying to figure out what race to run her in," he said. "We'll nominate to all kinds of different races like the Prioress and things like that. She's in good shape. She's something that will get us to the end of the meet, that's for sure, if everything keeps going well."

Stall said that multiple Grade 1-placed 3-year-old filly Top Decile will be retired following her 10th place finish as the favorite in a seven-furlong allowance inSaturday's ninth race.

Also owned by Klaravich and Lawrence, Top Decile broke her maiden last summer at Saratoga before running second in the Grade 1 Alcibiades and Grade 1 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies. Sixth in the Silverbulletday Stakes January 17 in her previous stasrt, she retires with $491,334 in purse earnings.

"We're going to retire her. Physically she's fine, she just doesn't have any want to her," Stall said. "We've seen it twice and we can't figure out why she's doing that. They just do that sometimes, especially fillies."

At 1 ¼ miles for 3-year-old fillies, the 135th running of the Grade 1, $600,000 Alabama is expected to feature a return engagement of the top four finishers in the Grade 1 Coaching Club American Oaks as well as a fresh trio of serious contenders on Saturday.

Separated by a nose, Curalina, trained by Todd Pletcher, crossed the finish line second in the CCA Oaks but was elevated to first place after the disqualification ofI'm a Chatterbox, conditioned by Larry Jones, for drifting into her opponent in the stretch. The rivals will be joined by CCA Oaks third- and fourth-place finishersInclude Betty and Danette, for trainers Tom Proctor and Keith Desormeaux, respectively.

Getting into the mix for the first time are three talented fillies making their Spa debuts: Grade 1 Kentucky Oaks winner and fellow Jones trainee Lovely Maria, Grade 2 Indiana Oaks runner-up Sweetgrass for Ian Wilkes and Grade 1 Mother Goose also-ran Embellish the Lace for Tony Dutrow.

Also on SaturdayShore Runner will look to keep his hot summer going in the $100,000 Troy, for 3-year-olds and up at 5 ½ furlongs on the Mellon turf course. Claimed for $62,500 at Belmont Park in June, the More Than Ready gelding has been perfect in his two starts for trainer Joe Sharp. Shore Runner is two-for-two over the local grass, most recently scoring a nose victory in his stakes debut in the Lucky Coin on July 27.

Meanwhile, Spring to the Sky will look to defend his win in last year's off-the-turf edition of the Troy for trainer Bruce Brown. Choctaw ChuckGo Blue Or Go HomeHavelockPure SensationSomething Extra and Summer Breezing are also expected. Sandy'z Slew is possible.

Graded stakes-placed Stallwalkin' Dude will look to make his first start at the Spa for trainer David Jacobson in the $100,000 Tale of the Cat at six furlongs on the main track for 3-year-olds and up.  The former claimer most recently finished second to Wildcat Red in the Teddy Drone on August 2 at Monmouth and boasts four wins from eight starts at the Tale of the Cat distance, as well as a runner-up effort in the Grade 2 True North at six furlongs in June at Belmont.

Also likely for the Tale of the Cat are the Pletcher-trained Catron, making his third start off a year-plus layoff; Affirmed Success winner Loki's Vengeance for Mike Hushion, and Pulling G's in his stakes debut for John Shirreffs.
