Pacific Classic guide: Odds, PPs, analysis for Del Mar feature
The Grade 1, $1 million Pacific Classic lost some of its starch when Adare Manor was scratched, but there still will be eight runners looking to punch their ticket to the Breeders’ Cup Classic on Saturday.
Del Mar’s signature event features San Diego Handicap (G2) winner Dr. Venkman competing against East Coast shipper Il Miracolo.
The Pacific Classic goes as race 10 of 11 at 9:13 p.m. EDT, and it will be shown live on FanDuel TV.

Looking at the pace
The projector is calling for a fast pace in the Pacific Classic, with Full Serrano setting the tempo ahead of Il Miracolo and Dr. Venkman.

HRN picks for the Pacific Classic
This week’s Super Screener has analysis for stakes races nationwide this Labor Day weekend, but the focus is the Del Mar Mile (G2), which closes out the Pacific Classic Day card.
Super Screener creator Mike Shutty acknowledges Du Jour is a major win threat, but believes there’s value to be had down the odds board.
"Trainer Phil D’Amato sends three horses in here, and (Almedares) emerges on top with the top value edge," Shutty said. Ed DeRosa’s Pacific Classic fair odds had Il Miracolo as the choice even before Adare Manor’s withdrawal. The odds will be shorter now but he’s still offering more value than Dr. Venkman based on the morning line.
Laurie Ross and Ashley Tamulonis went head to head handicapping the Pacific Classic and came to a consensus on the top choice but not the runner-up.
