Owner Moore seeking another Breeders' Cup win with Finley’sluckycharm

Owner Carl Moore entered Finley’sluckycharm in next week’s Fasig-Tipton sale and also Keeneland’s January sale. But he said his plan is to run the 4-year-old filly next year and then probably sell her.

“I put her in the sales as a back-up, in case something would happen,” he said. “I’ll run her as long as she’s healthy…. (But) I don’t want to breed her myself. I prefer to sell them. I like to run. I like the action, the racing.”

Moore won the 2010 Turf Sprint with Chamberlain Bridge, also trained by Louisville-based Bret Calhoun. Moore’s only other Breeders’ Cup starter was Mr. Nightlinger, 11th in the 2008 Turf Sprint.

“I realize it’s a dream, an unbelievable experience just to participate,” Moore said. “I don’t take it for granted. I typically have15, 16 horses at the track and I buy yearlings every year. You always try to find that dream horse. From Day One, when they started breaking Finley and Bret got her, they loved her. We named her Finley’sluckycharm, and my granddaughter’s name is Finley. She’s a beautiful filly, and I’ve got a beautiful granddaughter.”

Finley indeed is lucky. Moore said he has two other grandchildren, also naming horses for them. “They haven’t turned out to be very much yet,” he said with a laugh. “In fact there’s one that I don’t think will even make it to the races. I might sell it somebody for a pleasure horse.”

Finley’sluckycharm is 9 for 12, with two seconds (by a neck and half-length), coming in off victory in Keeneland’s Grade 2 Thoroughbred Club of America, which has been a leading prep for the Filly & Mare Sprint. The only time she hasn’t been close was when seventh at 1 1/16 miles in her third career start, when there was hopes that she might be a Kentucky Oaks filly.
