Bloom: Snapper Sinclair to race at 6; Henley's Joy nears return
Snapper Sinclair, one of racing's most honest and versatile runners, will be campaigned next year as a 6-year-old.
"We definitely are planning on continuing to campaign him in 2021," owner Jeff Bloom confirmed on Wednesday.
Bloom said he and trainer Steve Asmussen have not laid out specific plans for the Cigar Mile (G1) runner-up, but there are plenty of options on the table for the versatile son of City Zip who has won on dirt, turf and slop.
"As far as a schedule, we have not really defined that yet," Bloom said. "We figured we would bring him back to the Fair Grounds and go over what the calendar looks like going forward."
"If you look at his entire resume it is pretty remarkable," Bloom continued. "He won sprinting on the turf. He won going long on the turf. He won going long on the dirt. You pretty much put him in any spot and he will give it his all. It definitely makes things easier in terms of giving you more options to look for."
Snapper Sinclair has won five of 27 starts with five second's and 11 third's on his way to banking $1,438,620.
Bloom's 2019 Belmont Derby (G1) winner Henley's Joy worked a solid five-furlongs in 1:01.60 at Fair Grounds on Wednesday as he gets set to run for the first time in five months.
"He's doing fantastic, had a really good work this morning," Bloom noted. "He is running at Fair Grounds in the Buddy Diliberto Memorial Stakes on Dec. 19."
Bloom said the layoff was by design to freshen his 4-year-old colt up as he looks to return to top form.
"He had been going non-stop since he was a baby. It was a good time to let him recharge his batteries and give him a little breather," Bloom said. "We're hoping we see a return to the form that allowed him to capture a Grade 1."
With Bloom's biggest star, multiple Grade 1 winner Midnight Bisou, recently retired, he will look forward to the future with a slew of promising prospects.
"We had a nice Maiden Special Weight winner the other day with our American Pharoah colt Invincibility that we're excited about. We think he has a bright future."
"We also have an Into Mischief filly named Poquitomas that is getting close that we are pretty high on and we have a nice colt named Hype Man that hasn't started yet," Bloom said. "We have a number of young horses that we have high expectations for and it is always exciting to get their careers launched."
Bloom Racing will not have anyone with the star power of Midnight Bisou walking around the barn, but a deep roster of talented runners may result in a fruitful 2021 for the stable.
