New Vocations Racehorse Adoption Program announced today that over 180 retired racehorses entered New Vocations at Mereworth Farm since the new facility officially opened April 15, 2016. Of the horses served 120 were adopted into homes and new careers while the remainder are being rehabilitated or in transitional training prior to being put up for adoption.  To date over 450 horses have entered the program through all its facilities. The program sees this number growing next year once the new facility is complete and fully operational.
“We are very thankful for everyone who has supported the capital campaign. Our team has done an amazing job keeping the day to day operations going amid constant construction at the new facility.  We have already seen a significant increase in the number of horses we can take.  Once complete we look forward to focusing solely on helping as many horses as possible transition into second careers,” said New Vocations Program Director Anna Ford.
The relationship between New Vocations and the Susan Donaldson Foundation’s Mereworth Farm is the first of its kind and is making a dramatic impact on racehorse aftercare.  The New Vocations Capital Campaign was launched in 2015 to build the country’s premier racehorse retraining and adoption facility.  In addition to the new facility, New Vocations utilizes additional barn space and pastures on Mereworth Farm to provide much needed rehabilitation for the horses entering the program with injuries.
The public is welcome to tour the new facility during an Open Barn and BBQ April 28, that will include dinner, live music and demonstrations.
