William Clifton Jr.’s Our Way will follow up his victory in the Sunshine Millions Turf with a start in the $200,00 Appleton Stakes (G3) on Saturday at Gulfstream Park.

The 4-year-old dark bay gelding will be among the older horses running a mile on turf as part of a card highlighted by the $1 million Xpressbet.com Florida Derby (G1).

Our Way, who broke his maiden at Gulfstream Park in Feb. 2016, has not competed since winning the Sunshine Millions Turf under John Velazquez by a neck over Maxis Stable’s Enterprising on Jan. 21. Velazquez again will ride.

“We were just pointing for different spots with him,” trainer Jim Bond said of the more than two-month layoff. “He’s in good order. It’s a one-mile event and he likes the course. We’re fortunate to have a great owner who lets us do what have to do with the horse.”

Bred in Florida by Farm III Enterprises, Our Way has won three of his last four races and is 4-1-2 in 11 career starts. The Appleton will be the son of Tizway’s first outing in a graded stakes.

“He’s just an honest race horse,” Bond said. “He’s got it together, and he knows where the finish line is now.”

Stronach Stables’ Delta Prince, a 4-year-old dark bay trained by James Jerkens, seeks a third straight win. The lightly raced Street City (IRE) son broke his maiden at Gulfstream on Dec. 26 and followed that up by taking an allowance optional claiming race on Feb. 18 to improve his career record to 2-1-1 in 4 starts.

Gabe Grossberg’s Siding Spring also will be trying to win a third consecutive race. The 4-year-old bay son of Warrior’s Reward won two allowance optional claiming races during the current championship meet.

Wertheimer and Frere’s All Included, trained by Todd Pletcher; Nick Mastronardi Jr.’s Market Outlook, trained by Milton Nunez; and Imaginary Stables’ My Point Exactly, trained by Elizabeth Dobles round out the field.

Ol Memorial Stable’s Croninthebarbarian, winner of his last start = his first race for trainer George Weave - had been targeted for The Appleton until leg swelling forced the horse to miss work.

“We were planning to run, looking forward to it,” Weaver said. “Now we’re trying to figure things out.”

Temple Fur, Summersault make graded stakes debuts in The Orchid

Stirrup Trouble’s Temple Fur seeks a second straight win in her graded stakes debut in Saturday’s $200,000 Orchid Stakes (G3) at Gulfstream Park.

The Orchid is a 1 3/8-mile race on turf for fillies and mares 4 year old and up.

A 4-year-old bay daughter of Temple City, Temple Fur won the Mary Todd Stakes at Gulfstream Park on Feb. 20 to improve her overall record to 5-1-1 in 11 starts.

Edgar Prado will ride Temple Fur, bred in Kentucky by Reiley McDonald.
Mark Hennig-trained Summersault will make her first graded stakes start off consecutive wins in allowance optional claiming races Dec. 16 and Feb. 4 at Gulfstream Park.

New York homebred Summersault, a 5-year-old dark bay mare sired by Rock Hard Ten, is owned by William Parsons Jr. and David Howe. Paco Lopez will ride.

Martin Schwartz’s Olorda (GER), trained by Chad Brown, will make just her second start since April. The 5-year-old bay daughter of Lord of England (GER) finished sixth in The Very One Stakes (G3) on March 4 at Gulfstream Park.

Javier Castellano will be aboard Olorda, making a seventh straight start in a graded stakes since arriving stateside from overseas.

The Orchid field also will include Juddmonte Farms’ Maquette, a Tapit son trained by Bill Mott, in her U.S. debut; and Crossed Sabres Farm’s Quiet Kitten, trained by Bill Mott.
