Ortiz, who returned to action on Thursday after serving a 30-day suspension, was on Shea On a Mission when the 4-year-old filly acted up during the loading process and was ultimately scratched. TVG's Larry Collmus, who was on-site at Gulfstream, reported Ortiz Jr. appeared to have injured a knee.
Gulfstream Park reported at the conclusion of the program that Ortiz was "OK." The four-time Eclipse Award-winning jockey was scheduled to ride in nine races on Friday and in all 11 races on Saturday, including 8-5 favorite Value Proposition in the featured Tropical Turf Stakes (G3).
