Oregon's Grants Pass Downs joins the list, canceling spring meet
Grants Pass Downs in Oregon is canceling its spring meet, which was scheduled to begin on May 10, because of the coronavirus outbreak.
The track also said its backside will not open for training in April.
"Although this was a difficult decision to make, we are certain it was the right one," track president Randy Evers said in an announcement Thursday. "Our management team saw no possible avenue to continue with our planned schedule in a way that ... aligns with our mission and meets our commitment to the health and safety of our staff, our athletes, the horsemen and women, racing fans and the community of Grants Pass.
Grants Pass Downs closed its off-track betting network earlier this month after Oregon Gov. Kate Brown ordered all bars and restaurants to close.
The track joins a growing number of facilities that have decided to suspend racing, while others carry on without spectators. Click here for a rundown of who's racing this weekend.
Grants Pass Downs' summer meet is scheduled to begin June 20.
