Kaleem Shah's Grade 1 winner American Gal, who captured the Test (G1) at 3 and the Humana Distaff (G1) at 4, has retired, trainer Simon Callaghan announced Tuesday.

In a post to his Twitter account, Callaghan called the daughter of Concord Point "one of the best horses we have had the privilege to train."

The homebred will head to Hill 'n' Dale Farms to begin her second career as a broodmare.

American Gal last raced on Belmont Stakes weekend, finishing fifth in the Bed o' Roses (G3). Overall, the filly won five of her nine starts and earned $912,480, according to Equibase.

Callaghan and Shah have their next generation big horse already identified. Bellafina, a 2-year-old daughter of Quality Road, is already a multiple stakes winner for the pair.
