Omaha Beach delivers in his new gig at Spendthrift Farm
Spendthrift Farm’s newly retired Omaha Beach, the popular three-time Grade 1 winner by War Front, had his first mare confirmed in foal Tuesday, Spendthrift has announced.
Theyskens’ Theory, a Grade 3-winning juvenile and multiple Grade 1-placed daughter of Bernardini, checked in foal at Claiborne Farm in Paris, Ky. A half-sister to champion 2-year-old Stevie Wonderboy, Theyskens’ Theory is owned by Andrew Rosen’s AR Enterprises LLC.
Omaha Beach retired to Spendthrift last month after a decorated 3-year-old campaign in 2019. He jumped onto last year’s Triple Crown trail with three consecutive victories including the Rebel Stakes (G2) over 2-year-old champion Game Winner and Arkansas Derby (G1) over Improbable and eventual Kentucky Derby winner Country House.
This past fall, Omaha Beach defeated older horses and leading sprinter Shancelot when winning the Santa Anita Sprint Championship (G1) – running six furlongs in 1:08 3/5 – and posted an easy 2 ¾-length victory over Grade 1 winner Roadster in the Malibu Stakes (G1). He was also runner-up in the Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile.
“I think Omaha Beach is as good as they come," trainer Richard Mandella said upon the Fox Hill Farms' runner's retirement. "They just don’t get any better."
An earner of $1,651,800, Omaha Beach is out of the Seeking the Gold mare Charming, making him a half-brother to 2014 Breeders’ Cup winner and Champion Two-Year-Old Filly Take Charge Brandi.
Omaha Beach stands for $45,000 S&N and is booked full. He joined a pair of champions this season at Spendthrift, with Breeders' Cup Classic winner Vino Rosso and the Sprint hero Mitole both new stallions as well.
