Oaklawn has adjusted its stakes schedule after losing four cards this year to winter weather, track management announced Friday.

The $200,000 Lake Ouachita Stakes for older horses going 1 1/16 miles originally was scheduled for Friday, May 3. It has been moved to Sunday, May 5, the day after the Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs.

Oaklawn also added the $175,000 Eclipse for older horses, a six-furlong sprint scheduled for Sunday, April 7. Nominations for this race must be submitted before the close of business next Friday.

The Arkansas track’s 2023-24 season had been scheduled to end Saturday, May 4, and April 7 was intended to be a dark day. The two racing dates April 7 and May 5 were added to help offset cancellations caused by winter weather Jan. 14, 19, 20 and 21.

The race is open to horses who have not won a stakes race in 2023-24. The first post April 7 is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. EDT.
