Instant Replay almost waited too long before surging in the final sixteenth of a mile to win by three-quarters of a length over Caldera in Saturday’s $200,000 Bathhouse Row Stakes at Oaklawn.

The race was a qualifier for the Preakness, but since Instant Replay is not nominated for the Triple Crown, owners Gary and Mary West would have to pay $150,000 to supplement him into the $2 million classic May 17 at Pimlico.

Trained by Brad Cox and ridden by Flavien Prat, Instant Replay was sent off as the 3-5 favorite in the field of six 3-year-olds and returned $3.40, $2.20 and $2.10. Collecting his second win from five starts, Instant Replay earned $117,000 Saturday to improve his bankroll to $313,358.

Caldera finished a length in front of show horse First Division. Hymn, Pretty Capable and Hot Gunner completed the finish in that order. Tiz Secure was scratched.

Instant Replay tracked the field through moderate fractions of 23.54, 49.42, 1:14.70 and 1:39.41. He completed the 1 1/8 miles in 1:52.06 on the fast main track.
