O'Neill Has Two for Los Al Summer Juvenile

Owner-breeder J. Paul Reddam and trainer Doug O’Neill will send out two of the six entrants in Sunday’s $75,000-added Summer Juvenile Championship, the closing day feature of the Summer Thoroughbred Festival at Los Alamitos.

Mrazek and Ralis, both sons of Square Eddie bred in California by Reddam Racing LLC, will be trying for their second career victories in the inaugural running of the Championship, which is for 2-year-olds at 5 ½ furlongs.

Post time Sunday is 2:15 p.m. The Summer Juvenile Championship, which is the eighth of nine races, has a scheduled post time of 5:43 p.m.

Out of the Wild Rush mare Heckuva Rush, Mrazek defeated state breds by 5 ¼ lengths in his May 31 debut, then was second behind stablemate Found Money in the Santa Anita Juvenile three weeks later. He’s earned $58,600.

Ralis, who is out of the Ten Most Wanted mare Silar Rules, was fourth vs. open company in his initial start May 22, then returned against Cal breds to win by 4 ½ lengths as the 13-10 favorite 22 days later. He’s banked $37,968.

Swipe returns to California for Big Chief Racing LLC and trainer Keith Desormeaux after finishing third at 14-1 in the Tremont Stakes June 5 at Belmont Park.

A son of Birdstone and the Grand Slam mare Avalance Lily, Swipe finished second in his Santa Anita initiation May 22. He’s banked $41,200.

Desormeaux and Big Chief Racing are seeking their second 2-year-old stakes victory at Los Alamitos, having won the 2014 Cinderella Stakes with La Grange during the first Summer Thoroughbred Festival.

Dubdubwatson will try to bounce back after finishing fifth of six as the 2-1 favorite in the Santa Anita Juvenile.

Owned by Dickman Legacy Ranch LLC and trained by John Brocklebank, the son of Kipling and the Royal Academy mare W W Old School has one win in three attempts and earnings of $42,820. His win came in the race in which Swipe was second.

Swiss Minister, stabled at Los Alamitos for owner-breeder Heinz Steinmann and trainer Mike Harrington, is 1-for-2 with a bankroll of $41,100. He defeated Cal breds May 1, then was fourth in the SA Juvenile.

Taste’s Secret makes his first start outside Arizona after going 1-for-2 at Turf Paradise. Trained by Molly Pearson for Dream Racing Stable, the Taste of Paradise gelding out of the Twin Spires mare Girl Secrets has earned $16,359.
