Notable Florida stallion Uncaptured to stand in South Korea after sale

“He’s currently in Seoul, South Korea,” said David O’Farrell, Ocala Stud farm manager, on Monday. “The deal was finalized this past week. It was a long process to go through quarantine and all the hoops that you have to jump through to have them ready for export.”

The son of Lion Heart was a precocious type, winning six of his first seven starts, including winning graded stakes in back-to-back starts when taking the Iroquois (G3) and Kentucky Jockey Club (G2) at Churchill Downs in 2012.

Trained by Mark Casse and owned by John Oxley, Uncaptured would race until March of his 4-year old season, finishing third in the Gulfstream Park Handicap in his final race. Bred by William Graham in Ontario, the $290,000 purchase at the Keeneland September sale in 2011 earned $1,065,147 on the track.

Uncaptured was the top ranked first-crop sire in Florida in 2018 with eight wins from 26 starters, including graded stakes winner Catherinethegreat, who won the Schuylerville (G3) at Saratoga. He was ranked No. 11 in North America as a first-crop sire.

This year, he is currently the No. 2 second-crop sire in Florida and No. 11 in North America. Two Sixty, a daughter of Uncaptured, made an appearance at the Breeders’ Cup last month, the first of his first progeny to do so.

Ocala Stud currently stands stallions Adios Charlie, Ami’s Flatter and Girvin, among others. They were partners with Oxley for the breeding rights prior to the sale to South Korea.

“It’s John Oxley’s horse. We owned a small percentage but he still retained a majority interest. It was a very good offer. Mr. Oxley accepted it and that’s where we are,” said O’Farrell. “He was a very popular horse. Breeders did extremely well. And now we just have to reload and find another one. He did real well for a lot of people.”
