Keane Stud’s Normandy Invasion, Tapit’s one-mile track record-holder at Gulfstream, sired his first reported foal on Jan. 14th when a filly was born at Hilltop Stables in Deposit, NY.

Bred by Carl Bennett, the chestnut filly was produced from the Harlan’s Holiday mare, Miss Doc Holiday. “She is a big, strong filly with good bone, lots of leg and an attractive head,” said Bennett.

Normandy Invasion was a leading 2-year-old of his crop, breaking his maiden by 9 ¼ lengths before going on to finish runner-up by a nose in the Remsen S. (G2) at Aqueduct in his next start. At three, he closed strongly to be the runner-up in the Wood Memorial (G1) at Aqueduct, and was a good fourth in the Kentucky Derby (G1) after taking the lead at the quarter pole and leading the field into the stretch of the Run for the Roses.

As a 4-year-old, Normandy Invasion scored a 7 ¾-length victory in his seasonal debut at Gulfstream, setting a new track record for a mile in 1:33.13 – which continues to stand today. In his subsequent start, he finished second in the New Orleans H. (G2). Normandy Invasion retired as a Spendthrift Farm stallion with earnings of $551,900, and he entered stud to Keane Stud in Amenia, NY in 2016.

By champion sire Tapit, Normandy Invasion hails from the Boston Harbor mare, Boston Lady. He bred 85 mares in his first book in 2016, and is set to stand his second season at Keane Stud for a fee of $4,000 stands and nurses.
