After a layoff of nearly 13 months, Fox Hill Farm’s Normandy Invasion finished second in a mile allowance at Delaware Park today.  With Kerwin Clark aboard, the 5-year-old son of Tapit finished ¾-lengths behind the winner Our Caravan, with Alex Cintron.  The final time was 1:43.08 over a fast main tack.   Normandy Invasion, a Kentucky-bred conditioned by J. Larry Jones was the 1-to-5 favorite in the field of three.

“It looked like he got a little tired, but it was okay and the main thing is it  looks like he came back good,” said trainer J. Larry Jones.  “It will give us some things to work with now since this is the first time he ran for me.  It also looked like that when he made the lead, he pulled up like he did in the Derby.  He made the lead at about the 1/8th pole in the Derby and he started waiting on horses sort of like he did today.”

Previously, Normandy Invasion finished off-the-board in the Grade I Metropolitan Mile at Belmont Park on June 7, 2014.  He made two other starts in 2014.  He finished second in the Grade II New Orleans Handicap at Fair Grounds and won a one mile allowance at Gulfstream Park.  In 2013, he finished fourth in the Kentucky Derby and finished second in the Grade I Wood Memorial.  He has a career record of three wins from ten starts with earnings $525,990.

Live racing will be conducted on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday through September 1.  Beginning on September 8, Tuesday races will be dropped from the schedule and live racing will be conducted on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday through closing day October 17.  Daily first race post time is set for 1:15 p.m.

Delaware Park’s premier races, the Delaware Oaks (Gr. III) and the Delaware Handicap (Gr. I), will be held on July 11 and July 18, respectively.
