Nominations for 2017 Preakness Weekend Stakes Close Tuesday

Nominations close Tuesday, May 9 for the stakes-filled 2017 Preakness Weekend at historic Pimlico Race Course.

A total of 17 stakes worth $3.7 million will be offered over the two days, highlighted by the 142nd running of the $1.5 million Preakness Stakes (G1), the Middle Jewel of the Triple Crown, on Saturday, May 20.

The Preakness will draw its field from Triple Crown-nominated 3-year-olds. Supplemental nominations can be made for $150,000.

The Maryland Jockey Club is also offering a $100,000 bonus for trainers that accumulate the most points by running a minimum of five horses in stakes races on Preakness Weekend.

Supporting stakes on Preakness Day include the $250,000 Longines Dixie (G2) and $150,000 Gallorette, both for 3-year-olds and up on turf, each with a $200 nomination fee. The $200,000 Chick Lang, $150,000 Maryland Sprint (G3), $100,000 LARC Sir Barton, $100,000 The Very One and $100,000 James W. Murphy each offer free nominations.

Nominations are free for five of the seven stakes on Black-Eyed Susan Day, Friday May 20, led by the 93rd running of the $250,000 Black-Eyed Susan for 3-year-old fillies. Also with free nominations are the historic $300,000 Pimlico Special (G3), $150,000 Adena Springs Miss Preakness (G3), $150,000 Allaire DuPont Distaff (G3) and $100,000 Skipat.

The $100,000 Jim McKay Turf Sprint at five furlongs and $100,000 Hilltop at one mile on the grass each have a nomination fee of $100.
