No Set Plans for Daveron
Heather Craig, assistant to H. Graham Motion, reported that Team Valor International’s Daveron is in “good shape” following her victory in the Grade 2 Ballston Spa. She also noted there are no set plans for the 6-year-old German-bred mare.
“I don’t think they have gotten that far yet,” Craig said. “She is light. I think they try to pick their races strategically. She ate up well last night and seemed to come out of the race in good shape. She was bouncing around the shed row.”
This was the fourth victory in six races since Daveron was transferred to Motion last year. She entered the Ballston Spa off back-to-back victories in the Grade 3 Beaugay at Belmont Park and Dr. James Penny Memorial Handicap at Parx in Philadelphia . Craig said that Daveron has progressed well at Fair Hill Training Center in Maryland , Motion’s base.
“The only thing that I feel is different as to where she was before compared to our operation is that she’s trained at Fair Hill,” Craig said. “She’s kind of a nervous filly. She gets to go out in the field. She doesn’t train on the track; she trains out back. She goes to the track only to breeze. Yesterday, she was well-behaved in the paddock. We were worried because she didn’t get a chance to school in the paddock. She was a handful the last time when she ran at Philly.”
“I thought she was in a good spot throughout the race, but she just wasn’t moving. He [jockey Eddie Castro] pushed the button and she took off,” she added. “She’s quite impressive with the turn of foot she has.”
