No More Time is injured, will miss Kentucky Derby
No More Time was injured Sunday morning and will miss the Kentucky Derby.
Trainer Jose D'Angelo said the son of Not This Time suffered a condylar fracture during a workout at Palm Meadows and will require surgery. "Very good prognosis," D'Angelo said. "Most important now is him and his health."
No More Time would have been D'Angelo's first horse in the Kentucky Derby. "We make all the plans, the races he ran, his workouts and all was perfect until today," he said.
The injury was reported earlier on X by David Grening of Daily Racing Form.
No More Time, owned by Morplay Racing, has two wins from five career starts, including a victory in the Grade 3 Sam F. Davis stakes. He followed that by finishing second by a neck to Domestic Product in the Tampa Bay Derby (G2).
He had 45 qualifying points on the Kentucky Derby leaderboard, putting him at no. 19, one spot ahead of Japan contender T O Password. His injury cleared the way for Encino, winner of Saturday's Lexington (G3), to run for the roses.
Encino's trainer, Brad Cox, said after the race that the Godolphin homebred would be prepared to start next in either the Derby or the Preakness.
After Encino, the next three in the Derby standings are Grand Mo the First, Common Defense and Epic Ride.
