Lael Stables’ No Dozing, having made six straight starts against graded stakes company, is among 26 3-year-olds nominated to the $75,000 Concern Saturday, July 22.

The seven-furlong Concern is named for Robert E. Meyerhoff’s Maryland-bred multi-millionaire trained by the late Dickie Small, whose four career graded stakes wins included the 1994 Breeders’ Cup Classic (G1) and 1995 Californian (G1).

No Dozing, based at the Fair Hill Training Center in Elkton, Md. with trainer Arnaud Delacour, won his first two career starts including an optional claiming allowance last September at Laurel. He has only faced graded company since, finishing fourth in the Breeders’ Futurity (G1) and second in the Remsen (G2) to cap his juvenile campaign.

This year No Dozing was off the board in a pair of graded events at Tampa Bay Downs while on the Triple Crown trail, then ran third by a neck in the Lexington (G3) April 15 and second in the Pat Day Mile (G3) May 6 in his most recent start – both as the favorite.

Also nominated to the Concern are Action Everyday, third in the Federico Tesio April 22 at Laurel last out for previous trainer Todd Pletcher; multiple stakes winners Proforma and The Money Master; Grade 3-placed Honor the Fleet and Uncontested, the latter a winner of the one-mile Smarty Jones Jan. 16 at Oaklawn Park; multiple stakes-placed Alex Again; Excitations, exiting back-to-back Grade 3 races; and Painter’s Rags, Graham Motion-trained stablemate of two-time Grade 2 winner Irish War Cry unraced since running third in a Gulfstream Park optional claiming allowance Feb. 3.
Notes: In addition to Our Independence, jockey Horacio Karamanos was first with Misty On Pointe ($12) in the third race and Bird Humor ($10.40) in the eighth. Jockey Victor Carrasco had a riding double aboard Humbolt Street ($9.80) in the second and Ten Hut ($24.40) in the ninth. Misty On Pointe and Barry Lee ($4.20) in the sixth are both trained by Horacio DePaz for Sagamore Farm.

Jockey Alex Cintron was taken to the hospital for precautionary X-rays on his ankle after his mount, Marie from Parie, acted up in the starting gate prior to the third race and was subsequently scratched. Cintron walked with assistance to the waiting ambulance and was replaced on his remaining mounts.
