Night Prowler Expected for Redrawn Palm Beach
After scratching from the $150,000 Palm Beach Stakes (G3), which was eventually cancelled due to torrential downpours that plagued Hallandale Saturday afternoon, trainer Chad Brown said he will re-enter Night Prowler when the race is redrawn Wednesday.
Brown scratched the winner of the Jan. 3 Dania Beach Stakes (G3) after the Palm Beach, a 1 1/16-mile contest, was declared off the turf earlier in the day. The race was later rescheduled for Saturday, March 7, along with the $200,000 Fasig-Tipton Swale (G2). Those two postponed events will be now held in conjunction with the Gulfstream Park Handicap (G2) on a three-stake card next weekend.
“He’ll have a little breeze tomorrow, and then he’ll be ready when they redraw the race,” Brown said.
Croninthebarbarian and Divisidero are also among the horses that will re-enter the Palm Beach.
“He’s been training really well,” Zack Simms, assistant to trainer Gary Simms, said of Croninthebarbarian. “I think now we just keep him fresh and try to make a run at them again next week.”
“He’ll probably breeze a little bit on Tuesday – nothing much, but maybe just put a little half in him,” Buff Bradley, trainer of Divisidero, added.
Consumer Credit, winner of Gulfstream’s Sweetest Chant (G3) on Jan. 24, was scratched from her scheduled start in the Herecomesthebride Stakes (G3) Saturday. That race, the fifth on the program, was the last to go off before the remaining seven races were cancelled. Having missed the race, Brown adjusted his filly’s schedule.
“We breezed her this morning (4 furlongs, 50.35 seconds),” Brown said. “She breezed well. We’re planning on now running in the Florida Oaks at Tampa on Saturday.”
