Chad Brown's next court hearing is scheduled for Nov. 14
Trainer Chad Brown, who was arrested Aug. 17 for misdemeanor criminal obstruction of breathing, will have his next hearing in Saratoga Springs (N.Y.) City Court on Nov. 14 at 10:00 a.m. EDT on a day when the court is specifically hearing domestic-violence cases, a clerk confirmed Friday.
As reported by Mike MacAdam of the Schenectady (N.Y.) Daily Gazette, Brown was not present at a hearing Friday. He was represented by his attorney Matthew Chauvin, who told judge Francine Vero he believed an exchange of evidence would be complete by Nov. 14. If the discovery process is completed by then, Chauvin expected Brown to be ready to enter a plea at that hearing.
MacAdam also reported that Brown would not have to appear if the defense files a request for relief on Nov. 14. If that were the case, the prosecution would have to file opposition papers Nov. 18, and Brown would instead file his plea Dec. 16.
Brown appeared in court Aug. 18, the day after he allegedly choked a woman who entered his Saratoga Springs house. Brown entered a not-guilty plea and was released that day after posting $2,500 cash bail. Brown has not been required to appear in court since. Friday's hearing was postponed four times.
Brown was the leading trainer at the Saratoga meet for the fifth time in his career, with 42 wins from 197 starts in 2022.
