Next, Without Parole's a Pegasus World Cup Turf candidate
Chad Brown has more than once said Without Parole came to his barn from European counterpart John Gosden in "outstanding condition." Now, the trainer hopes he'll continue campaigning the 4-year-old.
Without Parole, a son of Frankel campaigned by John and Tanya Gunther -- well known as Triple Crown winner Justify's breeders -- ended a layoff of more than five months when rallying for third Saturday in the Breeders' Cup Mile.
Under jockey Irad Ortiz Jr., Without Parole wound up just 2 3/4 lengths behind the winner, Brown stablemate Uni. It was his first in-the-money finish since he won Royal Ascot's St. James's Palace (G1) in 2018, six starts ago.
"If I had a little more time and another piece of work or two...who knows what would have happened today," Brown said Saturday. "He could have been a little closer. I think he’s going to stretch out, this horse. I really do.
"I spoke to John Gosden, who I have enormous respect for, and he thought he would stretch out as well. I was really pleased with the condition I got this horse. It’s no surprise because it’s John Gosden. He takes great care of his horses.”
By Sunday, in a follow up conversation with New York Racing Association handicapper Andy Serling, Brown said Without Parole remains a candidate for the $7 million Pegasus World Cup Turf (G1) run on Jan. 25, 2020.
“I hope he stays in training next year," Brown said, with the Gunthers also potentially entertaining stud deals. "We can see what he can do with more time with him. I think he’s really going to like American racing.”
Brown won the Pegasus World Cup Turf's inaugural running with Bricks and Mortar.
