Three-time Grade 1-winning filly Bast, a 3-year-old recently retired with a soft tissue injury, has been bred to Lane's End Farm stallion Quality Road

Baoma Corp.'s Bast, a daughter of Uncle Mo, made the Jan. 5 Sant Ynez Stakes (G2) her final career start before knocked off the Kentucky Oaks trail.

“We just decided it would be in the best interest to retire her,” trainer Bob Baffert said upon her retirement. “There’s no guarantee she’d come back at the same level.”

Quality Road was the top general sire by Grade wins in 2019, according to a press release.

Bast made six career starts with total earnings of $852,200. Her three wins last year were in the Del Mar Debutante (G1) in August, the Chandelier (G1) at Santa Anita in September and the Starlet Stakes (G1) at Los Alamitos Race Course in December.

In between, she was third in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies in November.

"I can't wait to see the result of this mating," said Lane's End Farm's Bill Farish. "This is an A++ TrueNicks pairing, having produced many stakes horses including the brilliantly fast Switzerland."
