New owner, new barn for Mother Goose-bound Midnight Bisou
Midnight Bisou, the beaten Kentucky Oaks favorite who headed the class of 3-year-old fillies on the West Coast, has relocated to trainer Steve Asmussen's barn for an East Coast schedule the second half of this year.
It begins Saturday when the daughter of Midnight Lute headlines Belmont Park's Grade 2, $250,000 Mother Goose going 1 1/16 miles on the dirt.
According to a BSW Bloodstock release, Sol Kumin's Madaket Stables has purchased a minority share of Midnight Bisou, who also runs for Allen Racing and Bloom Racing Stable.
"We are thrilled to partner up with Sol on this amazing filly," said Jeff Bloom, a former jockey and trainer now trying his hand at ownership. "We have had great luck together in the past and look forward to enjoying this exciting ride with Sol and his team."
Before her third-place finish in the Oaks, behind only Monomoy Girl and Wonder Gadot, Midnight Bisou won each of the Santa Ynez (G2), Santa Ysabel (G3) and Santa Anita Oaks (G1) in the care of former trainer Bill Spawr. Since moving to Asmussen's barn, the $80,000 2-year-old purchase has breezed five times, most recently working a half mile Monday in 50 seconds at Churchill Downs.
Midnight Bisou is expected to be challenged in the Mother Goose by Road to Victory, a Mark Casse-trained daughter of Quality Road. Road to Victory has made just three starts, but she returned from a layoff June 9 to win Woodbine's Alywow Stakes. Going back to her 2-year-old season, the filly handed Monomoy Girl her only loss by a neck in Churchill Downs' Golden Rod (G2).
