A judge in New York set Thursday, April 2, as the new date for the arraignment of trainers Jason Servis and Jorge Navarro and others indicted on charges of illegally doping racehorses.
The arraignment had been set for Monday, March 30, but was postponed "to protect the health of all parties to this case and their counsel as well as the health of the public," U.S. District
Judge Mary Kay Vyskocil wrote in an order.
In a new order issued March 27, Vyskocil wrote that the arraignment will be held telephonically at 2:30 p.m. ET.
Servis and Navarro are among those who have entered a plea of not guilty with the court. Vyskocil is handling 19 individuals' cases in United States vs. Jorge Navarro, et al., which accuses defendants of participating in varying degrees of manufacturing, distributing and administering illegal substances to horses.
Servis, the former trainer of champion colt Maximum Security, and Navarro, a leading trainer at Monmouth Park and Gulfstream Park, are out on bail since arrested March 9, when federal prosecutors unsealed indictments detailing their findings. They face up to five years in prison
