Pete Reiman’s Nates Mineshaft broke in stride to make the pace and held on willingly to win Monday’s $49,000 allowance feature at Fair Grounds by a length and a quarter.
The winner toured the mile and 70-yard distance in 1:42.93 after establishing early splits of 23:95 and 47.15, increased his career earnings to $48,278 with his second win in five career starts and returned mutuels of $16.20, $12.20 and $6.60.
Brent Gasaway and Ian Yarmot’s Unbridled’s Heart finished second, a length to the good of Greta and Logan Trotter’s Candiano.
Unbridled’s Heart paid $6.40 and $4.40, and Candiano returned $4.20 in the show spot.
