NYRA track announcer Imbriale tests positive for COVID
New York Racing Association announcer John Imbriale is positive for COVID and will miss opening week of the Belmont Park fall meet, which kicks off Thursday.
NYRA spokesman Pat McKenna said Imbriale experienced "mild symptoms" related to COVID after the conclusion of the Saratoga meet on Sept. 6 and a subsequent test confirmed he was positive.
“As a result of the mandatory 10-day isolation period, Imbriale will miss the opening weekend of the fall meet and is scheduled to return on Thursday, Sept. 23," McKenna said. "In his absence, Frank Mirahmadi will handle the race calling duties on Thursday. Chris Griffin, who was named the lead race caller at Parx in March, will call Friday through Sunday.
"Imbriale is fully vaccinated, doing well, and looking forward to returning to Belmont next week,” McKenna added.
The Belmont Park fall meet runs through Oct. 31.
