NYRA Wins Best On-Track Contest Award

The New York Racing Association, Inc. (NYRA) has been awarded its third consecutive Conny by American Turf Monthly magazine as the host of the “Best On-Track Handicapping Tournament.”

According to the magazine, the Connys were created to “honor excellence in the world of horse handicapping tournaments.”

American Turf Monthly commended the NYRA contests as continuing “to do right by contest players in ‘old school’ fashion by offering handicappers great events where they can compete in traditional mythical money contest formats returning 100 percent of all entry fees to the top finishers in the form of prize money.”

In 2011, NYRA hosted a trio of two-day handicapping contests, including the second annual “Battle of Saratoga” at Saratoga Race Course. NYRA’s first tournament of the year, held June 25-26 at Belmont Park, was won by Jason Albano of Lindenhurst, N.Y., with Jimmy D’Elia of Howard Beach, N.Y., taking top prize in the Saratoga contest on August 10-11, and William Alexandridis of Middle Village, N.Y., winning the November 12-13 tournament at Aqueduct Racetrack.

“It is a great honor to be recognized again by American Turf Monthly for our handicapping contests,” said Kathy Locke, NYRA Special Events Coordinator. “There are many people at NYRA who contribute to the success of our on-track contest series, and this recognition is a reflection of their hard work. We look forward to maintaining and improving the quality of our program in 2012.”

Each of NYRA’s contests awarded three spots to the 2011 NTRA/Daily Racing Form National Handicapping Championship (NHC) in Las Vegas, which will be held January 27-28, 2012 at Treasure Island on the Las Vegas strip.

NYRA contests are limited to approximately 200 players and 100 percent of all entry fees are distributed as prize money.

Players are treated to a complementary lunch buffet and gift bag. Contest entrants are allowed to make mythical win, place, and show wagers with a 15-1 cap on win payouts and an 8-1 cap on place and show payouts.
