Mystik Dan travels to Kentucky as McPeek mulls Travers

Mystik Dan was shipped to Kentucky from New York on Sunday, with a layover at trainer Kenny McPeek’s Magdalena Farm on his way to Churchill Downs.

McPeek told Horse Racing Nation on Monday that it was a matter of logistics for his Kentucky Derby winner.

“We had a truck coming back from New York yesterday,” he said. “We dropped him here (at the farm) because we didn’t have room at Churchill. We had one too many there already. And then we're working on getting him moved back over.”

After his win in the Derby, Mystik Dan was second in the Preakness and eighth in the Belmont Stakes. After that race, McPeek said the Goldencents colt “scoped with a little bit of mucus” and would get a bit of a break before being pointed to the Grade 1 Travers on Aug. 24.

“He’s fine,” McPeek said Monday, adding that no decision has been made on what’s next.

“He’s just easing back into things, and he's only been back to the track for a week, not even that.” he said. “The Travers, we'll see. A mile and a quarter off the layoff's tricky, but it's not ruled out.”
