My Princess Dawn Worth Following at FG

Feel the Thunder Stable and Scott Unter’s My Princess Dawn, who broke her maiden with a front-running turf tally at Fair Grounds Nov. 30, provided her connections with a whole new set of options by coming from off the pace over a sloppy main track in Sunday’s $47,000 optional $50,000 claiming feature.

Although Sunday’s race was originally scheduled at 5 1/2-furlongs over the Stall-Wilson Turf Course before being transferred to the main track following inclement weather, the manner of her drawing off score suggested that My Princess Dawn might be able to negotiate a longer distance of ground. Her sire Master Command, who raced in the silks of Aaron and Marie Jones, invaded the Crescent City in 2007 to win the Grade II New Orleans Handicap at nine furlongs as well as the Grade III Mineshaft Handicap before that at 1 1/16-miles.

Master Command’s sire was A. P. Indy, who won the 12-furlong Grade I Belmont Stakes and the 10-furlong Grade I Breeders’ Cup Classic in 1992.

“That’s something we’ll consider,” said trainer Mike Stidham when asked if the main track and two turns might be a future option for the newly-turned sophomore filly My Princess Dawn.

The filly made her debut by finishing eighth over Keeneland’s Polytrack last October but now boasts two wins from three lifetime starts and has upped her career earnings to $40,967. She toured the 5 1/2-furlongs in the slop in 1:06.30 and returned mutuels of $14.20, $5.60 and $4.20 following her 3 1/2-length score.

Danny Keene’s My Daughter’s Song finished second in Sunday’s sprint, paying $4 and $3.20 while three-quarters of a length in front of Black Sheep Racing et al.’s Cheetah Pants, who returned $3 to show.
