My Point Exactly Back on Turf in Bear's Den

My Point Exactly is set for a return to the Gulfstream Park turf course Saturday, a move that has earned the Bill Kaplan-trained gelding 2-1 favoritism in the $75,000 Bear’s Den, a 1 1/16-mile stakes for 3-year-olds.

Owned by Pinnacle Racing, Norman Racing, Justice and Hendricks, the son of Concord Point is a two-time stakes winner on turf, having captured the Sunday Silence Stakes at Louisiana Downs last September and the King Cugat at Gulfstream two starts back. The Florida-bred gelding, who broke his maiden on dirt at Gulfstream by more than 10 lengths last year, is coming off an off-the-board finish in the Carry Back (G3) over the main track on July 5.

“On the grass, he hasn’t made any mistakes. Even in the Penn Mile he only got beat a length and a half for everything,” said Kaplan, whose trainee finished a close fifth in the Grade 3 turf stakes at Penn National on May 30. “We’re pretty sure grass is his thing, but I’m not really sure. I think around two turns, he can run on dirt. He’s doing really well. He should run a good race.”

Regular jockey Juan Leyva has the return mount aboard My Point Exactly.

The Phil Gleaves-trained Rizwan is rated second in the morning-line at 5-2.

Following back-to-back wins, including a victory in the English Channel at Gulfstream on May 2, the son of Silver Tree finished a tiring third in the 1 ½-mile Raymond Earl Handicap and fifth as the favorite in the King Cugat last time out.

“Looking at his last race, I have to think his post hurt him,” said Gleaves, whose trainee lost round from the far-outside post position. “But he’s training really well and we're looking forward to running him.”

Jose Caraballo, who has been aboard for all of Rizwan’s five career victories, has the call on Vegso Racing Stable’s homebred colt.

Jena Antonucci-trained Semblance of Order, rated third in the morning line at 9-2, is slated to make his stakes debut after winning his last two turf starts at Gulfstream for Gallostables.

Two Step Temper, who finished third behind Semblance of Order last time out, is stakes-placed, having finished second over Turfway’s Polytrack surface in the 99Rock Stakes in January. The Mike Maker-trained colt broke his maiden on turf last fall at Gulfstream Park West.
