My Boy Jack 'recovered well,' back in training at Santa Anita Park
My Boy Jack, the second choice in last year's Kentucky Derby who last raced in July, has returned to training at Santa Anita Park.
Trainer Keith Desormeaux said the 4-year-old son of Creative Cause got back to the track Monday after healing up from surgery at Peacefield Farm Equine Rehab in Temecula, Calif.
"We took a chip out of an ankle, but he’s recovered well and ready to go," Desormeaux said.
A closer, My Boy Jack ran fifth in the Derby behind Triple Crown winner and recently named Horse of the Year Justify. The colt made one other start, switching back to turf for the Belmont Derby Invitational (G1) but ran eighth that day.
Desormeaux said My Boy Jack "is two to three months from running" again.
Campaigned by Don't Tell My Wife Stables, Monomoy Stables and West Point Thoroughbreds, the bargain $20,000 yearling purchase -- as so many of Desormeaux's are -- ran 12 races before sidelined. Highlights included a victory at age 2 in Santa Anita's Zuma Beach before he ripped through the slop to take Oaklawn Park's Southwest Stakes (G3) at age 3.
