Mean Mary, multiple graded-stakes winner and millionaire, is retired

Multiple graded stakes winner Mean Mary has been retired according to a social media post from her ownership group.

The 5-year-old Scat Daddy mare, a homebred for Alex G. Campbell, ran second in her final race, the Aug. 14 Beverly D. (G1) at Arlington Park, which followed consecutive wins in the Gallorette (G3) at Pimlico and New York (G2) at Belmont.

The 2020 New York was her second consecutive win in that race. The mare, trained by Graham Motion, earned several other graded stakes victories throughout her career, including the Orchid (G3) and La Prevoyante (G2) in 2020.Mean Mary also made a single Breeders’ Cup appearance, finishing seventh last year's Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf at Keeneland.

Mean Mary ends her career with seven wins and three second-place finishes in 12 starts. She accumulated $1,086,270 million in earnings in three seasons of racing, including $570,110 this season.
